Quail breeding for business documents. Own quail farm: earnings and losses of the bird business

A quail farm is a very good idea for those who are planning to open a business with a quick payback with affordable investments. With a professional organization, the economy will bring profit and develop over time. It is true that this is a very difficult and labor-intensive process.

Quail farm as a business idea

Quail breeding as a form of business has become popular in Russia relatively recently. Due to the high profitability, the number of such enterprises is constantly increasing. Another advantage of this business is a quick payback.

Consumer demand for products of quail farms is several times higher than the supply on the domestic market, so this type of activity is quite promising.

Both large farms and small private farmers are engaged in quail breeding. You don't need to have experience in animal husbandry to get started. To establish and develop such an enterprise is within the power of a beginner, if the issue is approached responsibly.

Main products

The most popular quail products are eggs and meat.

The quail egg is very nutritious and healthy, therefore it is in demand. Most farmers specialize in laying hens, each of which is capable of laying about 300 eggs per year.

Raising quail for meat production is also very popular. The meat of this bird has excellent dietary properties.

In the process of development and expansion, another opportunity opens up - the sale of young animals. Anyone who wants to open a quail business acquires a breeding bird. Bird droppings are a good fertilizer, they can also become an additional source of income.

It is not necessary to focus on a specific product, it will be much more rational to produce eggs, meat and young at the same time.

Production technology

If you are seriously thinking about organizing the cultivation of these unusual birds, be sure to get a good quail breeding manual.

The first thing to start with is the arrangement of a room for keeping birds. Large areas at the first stage are not required, it is recommended to start with the number of no more than 500 birds.

When the place is prepared, you can start buying feed and young animals. Quails are fed with compound feed and a mixture of corn, wheat, barley, etc. Vitamins (shell rock, chalk) must be added to the diet.

The mini-farm should contain a parent flock (3-4 hens per male). The livestock must be periodically updated, since one-year-old birds have half the productivity.

To breed young, quail eggs are needed no older than three months, so products from older females are used only for food. Annual birds are most often slaughtered for meat.

Quail farm business plan

  • arrangement of premises for keeping birds;
  • equipment manufacturing;
  • acquisition of hatching eggs or young animals;
  • purchase of feed and vitamins;
  • paperwork;
  • hired staff.

room

Growing these birds does not require much space; 15-18 square meters will be enough for 500 heads. m. The room should be closed, but have a good ventilation system.

The quail does not tolerate cold and drafts, but at the same time it needs fresh air. The temperature should be within 18-27 ° C, humidity - 70%. The light doesn't have to be bright.

Additional premises will be needed for incubators, hatchers, special cages for young animals, insulated brooders for newborns. All this can be placed on another 15-20 square meters. m.

The quail "house" must be heated. Suitable for steam heating or electric oil coolers. Don't forget to include this item in your expenses when planning your quail business! Violation of the maintenance regime is very dangerous for these capricious birds.

Equipment

The quail farm is equipped with batteries of several cages, each should contain feeders, drinkers and sides to hold the eggs.

The floor should be slightly sloped so that the egg can roll to the side. You can build such cages yourself using reinforcement, a sheet of metal, plywood and mesh.

It is also necessary to have an incubator and a hatcher. The incubator must be equipped with an egg turning system, maintain a temperature of 37-39°C. Some farmers use a "mechanical hen" for chickens.

Quail breeding documentation

As a rule, when opening a quail business, livestock breeders start with small volumes and work without special documents. But with the expansion, the question of wholesale sales of products arises, and here the need for legalization appears.

If a regular veterinary certificate is enough to work with small shops and the market, then a number of permits for the sale of eggs and meat will be required to sell to large networks.

Frankly, the official registration of sales is not a cheap pleasure. A full package of certificates and technical specifications will cost at least 150 thousand rubles. Therefore, this is usually the prerogative of large organizations.

Farm staff

Again, a start-up farm, as a small business, most often manages with the help of family members. 2-3 people can easily cope with a thousand quails.

If large-scale production is planned, you need to think about hired workers. Most likely you will need:

  • bird care workers;
  • sales managers;
  • accountant.

You need to control the farm around the clock, so it is better to set a rolling schedule for workers.

Sales of products

The issue of marketing is perhaps the most problematic. Despite the high consumer demand, the behavior of retail chains regarding the purchase quail eggs and meat is not very active.

Small businesses successfully sell their products directly from home, through the market and small private shops and restaurants.

A large quail farm produces a much larger volume of products, so it needs a stable, well-established market.

It is quite difficult to negotiate with a large retail chain, even with proper documentation. Since all products are dietary, it makes sense to consider kindergartens, sanatoriums, recreation centers, etc. as buyers.

Quail farm: issue price

Growing quails, as a business, is a very cost-effective undertaking. Approximately a year later, with proper care, the livestock increases by almost 10 times, fully compensating for investments. All calculations should begin with upcoming costs.

Let's say you plan to buy 1,000 heads. It is better to purchase stronger week-old young stock, the price of which is 50 rubles per chicken. It turns out that you need to spend about $ 1,000.

A finished battery of 6 cells will cost almost $ 250. A thousand quails can be placed in four of these batteries, totaling $1,000.

About $ 200 will be needed for a small household incubator. Lighting and heating will cost about $100 per month. Feed eaten per month will be about $ 200.

Growing a thousand quails over a certain period will bring about $ 800 per month through the sale of eggs.

Approximately $300 can be earned monthly by selling meat. In total, with a rough calculation, the profit will be about $ 800. The full payback of the business comes in six months.

On this moment small business is actively gaining its popularity, before a person opens a business, he must think about whether it will be profitable and in demand in a given country or region. A very interesting and promising business idea is a quail farm.

Quails are unpretentious birds that do not need special care. Plus, you can sell not only the eggs that they carry, but also the meat. In order for such a farm not to be a burden, and bring a stable income and good profit, it is necessary to draw up a business plan correctly.

In order for the economy to get a good start and not be flawed, the following requirements and nuances must be taken into account:

  1. The farm must contain 500 or more quails for a successful start. The reproduction of these birds will lead to the fact that in a year you will have more than 5 thousand individuals.
  2. It is necessary to take care of updates in the herd. The fertility of quails is very different, it depends on their age, so you need to buy new birds in a timely manner, at least in small quantities.
  3. Equipment. Before buying quails, do not forget about the equipment, in this case these are cages. Cells are best bought from a metallic material. One block of cages contains about 250-300 individuals. The cages should have drinkers and feeders, as well as bumpers for eggs. Keep in mind that the floors in the farm should be sloping, this will help the eggs to slip into the sides themselves and will be easy to collect. Home products have always been famous and in demand, so the farm will always be in demand.
  4. It must be remembered that the farm must have a hatcher and an incubator.

This is the main thing that will be needed to open the farm and its operation, the cost of the cages is very expensive, about $ 100 alone, so you can make cages with your own hands that will look just as good, and if you entrust this business to a master, you can get good, professional cells.

Quail food

The problem of feeding these birds is very acute, this is probably the biggest difficulty when starting a business. Feeds offered by domestic producers do not contain enough vitamins and enzymes that are necessary for normal and healthy life and functioning. In order for the birds to be healthy, it is necessary to add chalk, shell rock, and fishmeal to the feed. It is very important to follow the dose here, since an overdose can lead to the death of birds, it is best to feed them infrequently than to overfeed them with vitamins.

Also, do not forget that even a mini farm cannot do without inspecting the birds, so a veterinarian is an indispensable person who must be on the farm. Product marketing is most often seen in supermarkets and large stores, so you should try to make a deal with stores to market products. In the Moscow region, you can very easily negotiate sales by concluding the necessary agreements and contracts.

Cost of business

A very important, and probably the most important and main issue that interests many when opening a farm, is the cost of the business. A quail farm is a very profitable business, but what is the cost?

Quail breeding at home

The cost price with equipment, and birds in the amount of approximately 500-700 pieces, will cost you $ 8,000 - $ 10,000. This money, with a good and successful start, will pay off in about three months, or in five months, it all depends solely on you.

Famous farms and their founders

In order to gain the necessary experience, and to learn as much as possible about the case to be dealt with, we try to learn as much as possible. Alexander Kovalenko a famous person, in his circles, he wrote a book about breeding and raising birds, and other features that people face on a quail farm.

Kovalenko's book can be downloaded absolutely free of charge on the Internet. The book tells about quails, about the features of breeding and keeping at home. The book presents important technologies and secrets of success, therefore, it will be very important to read this book, thereby you will gain invaluable experience and discover a lot of new things. The book contains a lot of really important and useful information, you can learn about growing, proper feeding, and much more that will be needed. You can download the Home Book in a matter of minutes, but after reading it you will get an experience of a lifetime.

Large private farm

One of the largest private farms is the Baklykov farm. This is the largest and most prosperous farm, private management. The farm is equipped with the latest equipment, has a lot of birds, and is actively developing. The company has significant contracts with supermarkets and other companies that guarantee the sale of products. The income of this farm is silent, but such success speaks for itself.

A quail farm in this case is not only a source of income, but also something that people believe in and put their soul into. There was even a short film-report about this farm, thus the farm increased its popularity. The video that is on the network indicates that there is something to admire and be surprised. There are some good videos on this page too.

In addition to generating income, production also requires significant contributions. The owners invest not only material values, but also the soul, equipment and cages are constantly updated. Initially, the company had great difficulties in selling eggs, and in terms of maintenance, however, the difficulties are temporary, and now this production is the largest supplier of quail eggs, and the staff of employees is constantly striving to increase.

Why the quail business?

Many people who want to open a business are wondering why quails. Quails are unpretentious birds, and this is very important, as they will not require care. The business pays off very quickly, and its technology is quite simple.

The demand for eggs is much greater than the firms, so you don’t have to worry about selling products. You can open your own outlet and sell it yourself, this is a great option, and the profit can be several times higher, you will need to get permission to sell and you're done.

Independent marketing of products is very profitable, at first you can open one point, and then another and another, if the farm is actively developing. It is very important to attract attention, Farms of Ukraine are very common in Lately, this business is just starting to develop, so it is very easy to become a leading manufacturer in your region.

Where exactly the company will be located is not so important, the most important thing is to support everything that is necessary for a comfortable life for quails. Everything is in your hands, and the success of production depends solely on you.

"Birdyard" today and tomorrow

Alexey Dzhalilovich Bekirov was born in Kyrgyzstan. Then he moved with his family to the Crimea, from where he joined the army. Returning home after demobilization and finding devastation and unemployment around, he went to Moscow to army friends. And as he himself admits, wherever he worked, he even had to sell jeans ... Alexei has no special agricultural education yet, at one time he studied to be a manager. “But apparently, somewhere in my genes it is written to work on the land,” the farmer says.

I started my business by taking a loan from a bank and buying an abandoned, dilapidated farm in the Vladimir region, Bekirov recalls, - only 4.5 hectares of land and buildings on it - a pigsty, a cowshed, a feed shop, a warehouse ... Since my farm is located on the territory of the Petushinsky district, I decided to call it "Bird's Yard". In addition to the land that I now own, the local administration allocated another 70 hectares to me for rent so that I could make hay.

First of all, I bought horses, and for this I went to Tatarstan, to a "wild" village, to an ecologically clean area, where the animals were definitely healthy. Almost immediately, he also started cows so that there would be something to feed the workers (they always have fresh milk and cottage cheese). From there, from Tatarstan, he brought a hundred rams. The first year they successfully "cut" the grass on the farm. But as practice has shown, it is not profitable to keep sheep in our area - they feel good where there is grazing all year round. So small cattle were abandoned, but quails appeared on the farm instead.

This bird does not need large areas. The cowshed was converted into a sparrowhawk. We cleaned the room, put the cages and launched the bird. The climate in our area is suitable for quails - not very hot and not too cold, you do not need to spend a lot of energy on heating. Birds have a body temperature of 42 °, and the optimum temperature in the room is 20-25 °, so quails partially heat themselves. Now on my farm, the breeding herd of quails has 35 thousand heads. The room where they are kept is designed for 200 thousand heads, but it makes no sense to increase the number of livestock - there is no corresponding market. Today I can a short time"accelerate" to the production of 150 thousand eggs per day, but there are no reliable distribution channels for such a quantity of products.

Quail I keep Estonian and Japanese (egg). I select the best birds in the parent flock. There is even a “stud book”, more precisely, a journal where all information about quails is entered from the incubator to the slaughter. It seems to me that without this it is simply impossible to conduct business effectively.

In the beginning, old Samsung refrigerators were converted into incubators, and now the farm has industrial incubators designed for 3,000 chicken eggs; about 15,000 quail eggs can be incubated in them at the same time. In a month we can bring out up to 100 thousand quails. They hatch after 17 days of incubation. Then we transplant them into brooders (I call them nurseries). The chicks stay there until the age of three weeks, the temperature in the brooders is gradually reduced from 38° to 20°. At the age of 3 weeks, we sort the quail by gender. We fatten the males for meat (or they go to repair the herd), and let the females to produce eggs. We move them to the common room. Now the farm produces about 8 thousand eggs per day. This number is difficult, but divergent in the markets.

We feed an adult bird twice a day: in the morning - at 7 o'clock, and at the same time we turn on the light in the room; the second time - in the evening, at 8 o'clock, 2 hours after that, turn off the light. Such a system is optimal for achieving high egg production in laying hens. Light day in a bird lasts 9-10 hours. Feed is a balanced feed for quails. It is prepared for us at the feed mill by special order. Moreover, for males that are grown for meat, and for laying hens, feed is prepared according to different recipes.

For the first three days, quails eat a mixture of boiled quail eggs and cottage cheese (we prepare it from milk from our cows). Receiving such food, quail grow well, do not get sick. I believe that from the first days the bird should be fed as best as possible - after all, this is the key to its entire future life and productivity. Then the quails are transferred to the starter feed, and only then, when transferred to the common room, we accustom the young to the feed for an adult bird.

Perhaps it is worth saying that quails are not the only representatives of birds in our Bird Yard. I often go to agricultural exhibitions and see that in the spring there is a demand for young birds. So I decided to bring out the goslings (fortunately I have incubators) and sell them. To do this, I bought 5 thousand. goose eggs. But unfortunately, not everything worked out as planned. The market has shown that few people want to breed and simply fatten geese. And the conclusion (albeit for the first time) was successful - the goslings hatched from 70% of the eggs laid in the incubator. They bought a total of 500 heads from me, and I stayed with the rest of the thousands of goslings.

Now I have 2.5 thousand Lindovskaya geese. In the summer they were in the pasture, there is a reservoir nearby, the geese were perfectly fattened on the grass and on aquatic vegetation. They are also fed with substandard bread, which we buy at the bakery for 3 rubles. per kilogram, even cheaper than buying grain. Of course, the diet of large animals (cows and horses) and geese includes oats, barley, and corn.

We have a crusher where this grain is crushed. We feed animals with cabbage, onions and other “vitamins” that I buy at vegetable bases.

On the farm, in addition to quail eggs, quail and goose meat, we also receive valuable fertilizer - droppings, and also manufacture equipment for keeping quails - mini-farms. But the main direction, of course, is meat and eggs. Quail eggs are harvested by hand several times a day and then packed into boxes. We slaughter poultry at a specially equipped and registered slaughterhouse.

You can hardly find quail and geese meat in the markets now. It is sold only in supermarkets. And the prices are exorbitant. In addition, the meat is often not of very good quality: after all, frozen quails are brought to us from Italy, across borders, customs. And not only does the price of such meat increase significantly, but also its quality drops dramatically - frozen meat dries. I slaughter my birds at the age of 2 months, with a weight of 120-140 g. Such meat is young, juicy, tender, and at the same time it takes no more than an hour to transport it - I can sell fresh meat! The price of my quails is 350 rubles. per kilogram, half the price of imported quail in supermarkets. But, as I have already said, it is very difficult to break into the market now.

Our farm employs 12 people. It is probably not worth talking about how difficult it is today to find skilled, hardworking workers. Recently, I had to hire migrants from the former Soviet republics, however, there are also enough problems with them.

Despite all the difficulties, further development I don't intend to give up farming. In the near future - agricultural tourism, or, as it is also called, ecotourism. We have all the prerequisites for this: a good road, clean surroundings, a huge lake nearby (for fishing enthusiasts), I want to build light houses for visitors. To attract tourists, I am going to breed as many species of birds as possible - from the smallest (quail) to the largest (ostrich).

I plan to expand production, in particular, to organize a rabbit farm.

Quail breeding as a business: where to start?

To do this, we buy a net and a breeding herd, and we already have a room for keeping eared ones, it remains only to repair and equip it. In addition, we keep chickens and turkeys on the farm. Turkeys, by the way, are more suitable for breeding for meat than geese. They do not make noise, they do not need a reservoir. Goose meat is still specific, in demand mainly for new year holidays and turkey is good for every day. I think in the future to seriously deal with this bird.

But in general, contrary to the opinion of many, there are prospects. Farming as a business is becoming more and more popular. It is only necessary to open free access for farmers to markets and large retail chains. But the farmers themselves must work tirelessly, do everything to be noticed, so that they have something to go to the authorities and buyers. I look at some of my familiar farmers and I feel sorry for them: people do not see the prospects, they are tired of struggling with difficulties. There is no program, no goal, they live and work in the old way and do not want to change anything.

I don't like this position. As long as there is strength, energy, I will strive to develop production, look for new ways to expand and strengthen it.

Recorded by A. VETROVA Vladimir region.

P.S. Bekirov's farm not only produces agricultural products, but also manufactures equipment. When the question arose about equipping the sparrowhawk, it was possible to solve it in two ways: to purchase domestic equipment or to buy foreign equipment. Domestic for the industrial maintenance of quails cost about 150 thousand rubles, and foreign (for 100 thousand heads) and even more - 300 thousand euros. And Alexey Dzhalilovich decided to make cells on his own. I bought a grid with the desired cell, made cells with my own hands. They cost the farmer 5 times cheaper than purchased ones. Then he acquired Italian equipment for automatic watering of poultry. The experience gained allowed us to organize the manufacture of equipment for keeping quails (from small livestock to industrial ones).

For example, a mini-farm for a city apartment. By installing this on the balcony, you can keep several birds in it and get 4-5 fresh quail eggs daily. Quails do not eat much - 35-40 g of feed per laying hen is enough. Litter is collected in a plastic bucket with a lid, this saves the owners from an unpleasant smell.

The farm produces mini-farms in another version - for summer residents. The cage is designed for 50 heads. Such a mini-farm will give eggs, carcasses, and valuable fertilizer - litter. I repeat: the bird does not eat so much food, it is resistant to diseases, it does not need walking, it requires little space. Such a mini-farm can be installed under a canopy, the main thing is that there are no drafts and the roof protects from rain and from the sun. This option is also suitable for small businesses. Fresh quail eggs and meat will certainly appeal to visitors to cafes and restaurants.

Attention! inexpensive household foam incubators are not very suitable for quail hatching.

Description of the production process

The mother flock, consisting of 100-120 females and 30-50 males, depending on the breed, is intended for obtaining hatching eggs. When breeding for meat, we recommend using Texas quail. A flock in this quantity should lay 400-450 eggs of incubation quality per week. Rejected eggs are sold as food.

The eggs laid in the first week are laid in the incubator. Eggs laid in the second week are laid in the second incubator. Eggs laid in the third week are laid in the third incubator.

In the middle of the third week (on the 16-17th day), the quail hatches in the first incubator. Of 450 eggs, 350-400 quails should hatch, of which at least 300 heads should survive to adulthood.

Newborn quails are placed in the first brooder until the age of 10 days.

In the middle of the fourth week after the start of activity, the quail hatches in the second incubator, which are placed in the second brooder.

By the time of hatching, the first brooder is released in the third incubator, the grown chicks from which are transferred to the cage for rearing. This continues every week: eggs are collected, laid in incubators, chicks in a brooder, then in cages for rearing.

On days 42-56 (depending on condition), the first batch of quails is sent for slaughter.

Accordingly, after 2.5 months we have the first results for meat. At least 220 quail carcasses are subject to sale. The remaining amount can be used as replacement young for old or departed parents; partially implemented.

Today we will look at a very interesting quail farm business plan and find out its real profitability. I would like to immediately dispel all myths and, perhaps, disappoint readers - it is difficult to earn a huge amount of millions in this niche. Theoretically, this is real, the saying goes that you need to figure out how to earn one dollar and multiply this action by a million times. In reality, the main difficulty in this niche that you will encounter is the sale of products. More about everything later in the article.

Business pros and cons

Many entrepreneurs choose quail breeding as a business. This case has a number of features, positive and negative sides.

Quail breeding advantages:

  • Small investment. You can avoid renting premises, land. It is quite possible to breed quails at home.
  • Quick profit. These are popular birds whose eggs and meat are highly valued. Rates vary by region.
  • Growing up takes only a month. The growth rate is quite high. It takes a maximum of 40 days for an adult to grow from an egg. She will be ready to produce new offspring. Rapid growth is one of the advantages of breeding such hens.

  • No space requirement. Birds normally tolerate crowding.
  • Meat and eggs are high useful properties which is why they are in such high demand.

Negative sides:

  • temperature difference. Quail normally tolerate crowding, only for them it is important to create a suitable climate control. If this is not the case, the chickens will be seriously stressed. As a result, you can lose offspring. Quails do not tolerate various shocks, for example, temperature changes, moving.
  • Sales market. There is a demand for eggs and meat, but in small towns chicken is still preferred, which makes sales difficult.

Quail species

Experts advise buying several types of birds at once:

  • oviparous;
  • broiler.

It should be borne in mind that quails have practically no instinct to raise chickens. The entrepreneur will have to take care of an artificial incubator. This will allow you to grow new offspring. Those devices that are commercially available are suitable for three hundred eggs. Only this is not always enough to provide the desired amount of growth. That is why many entrepreneurs try to equip the incubator on their own.

Breeding for meat or eggs?

There are breeds of birds that are suitable for obtaining meat and eggs. It is necessary to carefully select quails. Breeding them only for meat is not entirely advisable. A standard portion from one ordinary bird is no more than 200 g. Weight from a meat breed is 300 g. It is more profitable for restaurants and cafes to buy meat of small breeds.

It will be profitable to breed meat breeds only in cases where sales are established. Birds can be delivered to poultry farms, retail chains.
