Overview of the features of the motion sensor for turning on the light

Motion sensors have recently been used only to ensure the security of a protected facility. And it was known about them as some kind of complex technical devices. Currently, motion sensors are very popular and are used not only as security equipment. Today, motion sensors are also used to control lighting, both indoors and outdoors.

In order to understand which sensor to choose, it is worth understanding better what it is. Motion sensors for turning on the light are divided into three types depending on their location:

  • Perimetric - for the street;
  • Peripheral;
  • Internal.

The most popular today are street, ceiling and outdoor motion sensors. Thanks to such a variety of types and methods of installation, it is possible to install them in any way and under any accompanying conditions.

Choose the right device based on your own needs and preferences. With such a variety to choose from, anyone can find the right sensor for themselves so that it satisfies any request.

Specifications

Motion sensors are used to turn on the light in order to:

  • Ensuring home or office security;
  • Automatic switching on and off of the light in the area around the house;
  • They can also turn other devices on and off.

In addition, these technical devices are divided into three types according to the installation method:

  1. wall
  2. Ceiling
  3. Embedded.

And there are several ways to operate the device:

  • By connecting to the network;
  • Wireless;
  • Autonomous;
  • On a solar battery.

The use of these devices allows you to save up to 50% of electricity, so the electricity is not always on, the light turns on and off, reacting to movements. By installing, for example, a motion sensor in the entrance, the light will turn on only when a person enters the entrance. The presence of a sensor near the gate will help to notify the owners of the house in advance that guests have approached their house. If you use this device in conjunction with video shooting, you will get an excellent security system that saves electricity. In addition, sensors can be great helpers in the country, in the kitchen or in the garage, starting a variety of electrical equipment.

The principle of operation of the sensor to turn on the light looks quite simple. In the area where movement is detected, the installed sensor is triggered, resulting in a short circuit in the circuit. At this moment, all devices that are connected to this sensor turn on, and after the movement has stopped, the price is automatically opened, followed by the devices being turned off.

Types of motion sensors to turn on the light

An outdoor motion sensor to turn on the light when there is movement in the area of its coverage, automatically turns on the light. The outdoor version of the sensor will be indispensable on landings, in dark closets or corridors. By using this device, you can increase personal comfort, save energy and increase the security of your home.

An infrared motion sensor for turning on the light turns on the light by reacting to heat radiation emitted by moving people. The device works even in bad weather conditions.

The ceiling motion sensor for turning on the light works on the same principle as other sensors, it is mounted on the ceiling. It is possible to install it in industrial premises that are not heated in winter.

The motion sensor for turning on the light 12 volts is designed for objects with low voltage. It can be used in combination with a simple alarm.

A hidden motion sensor to turn on the light is usually used in conjunction with security systems so that an intruder cannot deceive him. Also, hidden equipment is used indoors so as not to disturb the design interior.

Mini motion sensors for turning on the light are the same sensors, with the same principle of operation, only of a small size.

A wireless motion sensor to turn on the light when triggered by a moving object sends a radio signal, due to which the light turns on. Such a sensor is used where it is not possible to lay wires, or where light is rarely needed.

The ultrasonic motion sensor for turning on the light works by reflecting waves from objects around.

Motion sensors to turn on the light in the bathrooms are very convenient. You can set the operating time of the light, for example 10 minutes. That is, when you go to wash your hands in the bathroom, the light will turn on and off after 10 minutes. If longer procedures are expected, then you can turn on the light using a conventional switch.

A motion sensor for turning on the light without delay is convenient for those rooms where a person does not stay for a long time. For example, you should not install such a sensor in the toilet, because after about a minute the light will turn off, and you will have to regularly wave your hands to turn the light on again.

It is better to choose a motion sensor to turn on the light on the stairs with a slight delay of 1-3 minutes. In the dark, it is not very convenient to walk up the stairs without lighting, the motion sensor will solve this problem. The device is mounted above the stairs on the ceiling or on the wall.

As a rule, when the motion sensor is triggered, a click is heard and then the light turns on. Silent motion sensor to turn on the light can be infrared. When choosing, it is necessary to pay attention to the technical characteristics, if the load is not connected through a relay or it is minimal, then this sensor will be silent.

How to install?

We will consider connecting a motion sensor to turn on the light using the example of a wired device, since wireless ones are less common.

The connection diagram of the motion sensor to turn on the light is almost identical to the connection diagram of a conventional switch. The connection is made as standard using a three-wire network cable, which will be directed to the sensor from the light source. You can install the sensor together with the switch, then when the switch is in the “off” position the motion sensor will work.

For more comfortable use of sensors, you can adjust the on time, for example, at night, and off during the day. The duration of the light on is also adjustable.

Faults and repairs

Motion sensors are electronic devices and can burn out, fail, or simply be defective. The cause of combustion may be an incorrect wiring diagram or a large load on the device. After combustion, the sensor cannot be repaired, but if it fails, you need to carefully check the connection diagram, and if it is not possible to figure everything out yourself, then it is better to contact an experienced electrician. If the device is faulty, that is, the light does not turn on and off, the sensor is not better to hand it over under warranty, and not try to identify the cause yourself.
