A gas boiler is one of the most affordable, efficient and economical ways of heating. For heating a house, apartment, warehouse, you can choose the right model. Blue fuel in Russia is much cheaper than electricity. The only drawback of the technique was the need to connect to the highway. But a liquefied gas boiler does not require a network connection, so it is available to everyone.
The mass construction of country houses leads to difficulties with summing up the gas main. But not only why propane boilers are in demand:
- The difference in the price of propane and centralized gas is not so significant.
- When gas is burned, only carbon dioxide is removed.
- The security system monitors the operation of the device, preventing damage.
The principle of operation of both systems is practically the same.
Liquid gas equipment has the appearance of a rectangular steel body, which looks stylish and modern. Inside are the following elements:

The burner also ignites automatically or uses electric ignition. The only difference is the nozzle diameter. In this case, the holes are narrower to compensate for the higher pressure in the cylinder.
For the house, you can use a double-circuit and single-circuit unit. The device with two circuits is designed for heating and hot water supply (DHW). One circuit can only be used for heating.
According to the type of installation, there are wall and floor models. Each of them must be connected to a stationary or coaxial chimney. Equipment with a closed chamber takes air from the street. An open chamber requires good ventilation in the room to maintain the flame in the burner.
How to calculate fuel consumption
When choosing, the question arises: how much propane is needed to heat the house? The instruction manual will help you make accurate calculations, where the characteristics of your model are indicated.
It turns out that devices that run on butane emit three times more energy. In this case, the gas is not necessarily stored in cylinders. These can be large tanks with a capacity of several thousand kilograms. They are installed in the basement.
Let's take averages. For heating an area of 100 m² with normal thermal insulation, the consumption of propane gas will be 2 cylinders for 7 days. For one month you will need 9-10 cylinders. In order not to change containers often, a two-arm collector is used. 10 containers are connected to it simultaneously.
Can a conventional gas boiler run on a cylinder
Propane devices are produced by domestic and foreign manufacturers. There are combined models that successfully connect to a common line, and, if necessary, switch to liquefied fuel.
It is possible to redo the heating circuit by replacing the burner or nozzles. Of course, not all models can be converted to liquefied gas. The device must work stably at a pressure of 3–4 mbar. The gas valve must pass up to 1.8–2 m³ per hour.
Condensing type boilers are great for remodeling. Their already high efficiency will increase thanks to bottled fuel.
How to reconnect the device
- Change nozzles or cartridge (depending on model).
- Connect a reducer that will reduce the pressure in the system. If the installation includes several tanks, a separate gearbox can be used for each.
- Change the bypass valve if it does not fit the new system.
- When connecting from 10 to 15 containers, use a special ramp. Organization is carried out either through individual gearboxes or through converters. As soon as one tank runs out of content, the system will automatically switch to the next tank.
- Adjust the settings so that the unit "tunes" for propane. To do this, select G31 in the settings.
During operation, adhere to the requirements:
- The tanks must be located in a room separate from the boiler or outside in a closet. The distance from the device is at least 2 meters. Additionally, cabinets are insulated with a layer of thermal insulation so that the containers do not freeze.
- If you do not immediately top up the tanks, store them outside the building.
- Carefully monitor the residual amount of fuel. Full development of content is prohibited. Every four years, an inspection for tightness is carried out.
It is equally important to properly store gas containers. If you decide to make a supply of cylinders, then place them in a separate room at a distance of 10 meters from a residential building. The room should be well ventilated and not have a basement. Propane is heavier than air, so if it leaks, it will accumulate at the bottom. Under adverse conditions, an explosion will occur.

- Efficiency. Convection devices achieve an efficiency of 90–95%, while condensing devices reach 100–107%.

Like any appliance, LPG boilers have their pros and cons.
Advantages:

Flaws:
- The need for constant monitoring of the residue in the tank.
- The cost of propane is rising, and you will also have to pay for shipping.
- The room must be well ventilated.
- Refueling and replacement of the tank is carried out manually.
- If you intend to re-equip the device, then the cost of a new burner will be 30-40% of the boiler price.
